Fatigue Supplements

Im tired. Thats usually how I feel! With two kids and a busy writing career I just never seem to get enough sleep! When I began to look into supplements to give me some more energy during the day, I was astounded at how many fatigue supplements there were!

There are several energy supplements for fatigue, but each one works differently and may not work for everyone. Here are some common energy supplements for fatigue and their benefits.

Ginseng

Ginseng is a natural energy booster and has been used in traditional medicine to fight fatigue. Recent studies show that ginseng increases energy levels in patients with chronic fatigue. In particular, Panax ginseng has been found to enhance immune function in people with chronic fatigue and even AIDS. Another variety, Siberian ginseng, was found to be less effective.

Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NADH)

NADH is essential to energy production in cells. Studies show that taking 1 mg of NADH daily over a period of two weeks can relieve the effects of chronic fatigue with no severe side effects.

L-Carnitine

Carnitine is a naturally occurring substance that transports fatty acids to the mitochondria, the energy-producing part of the cell, to be converted into energy. People suffering with fatigue syndrome have low carnitine levels and can benefit from L-carnitine supplements.

Coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q10 aids in the production of ATP, the main energy source of the cells. Increasing intake of Co Q10 can increase ATP levels and help the body store more energy.

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)

DHEA is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. Its exact function in the body is unknown, but fatigue syndrome sufferers have significantly lower levels of DHEA or have limited DHEA production. However, further studies are needed to prove the effects of DHEA on chronic fatigue.
